Celtic Circle Dance is perhaps Joe's most enduring recording. It is composed of neo-Celtic and neo-medieval music with a modern twist! Quite enjoyable, and very interesting indeed.

The title song has proved to be very popular with re-enactors, as it is somewhat of a mythic history of the British Isles.

This re-release version from Random Factors combines the original tape with best of the tape version of "The Black Book of Locksley," a collection of songs written for medieval re-enactment groups.

Side One:

Hunt The Wren
The tape opens with an instrumental on octave mandolin and other instruments, and the wild dance begins!

A Pict Song
This is Rudyard Kipling's poem and Leslie Fish's tune. Sometimes known as "We Are The Little Folk."

Celtic Circle Dance
The title tune. Quite eerie, and very danceable! I recently recorded it with The Bringers .......

The Itsy Bitsy .......
Sometimes the silliness gets a little too much for me, and stuff like this one falls out of my brain.

Carrie
This is a poetic recitation set to harp music. Nice to ground out after the title song ....

Die Gedanken Sind Frei
From the Peasant's Rebellion in Germany in the mid-1500's comes a classic song of freedom. Tyrants: take note.

Ballad of the Three Kings
Poul Anderson's classic song about power .... and it's eventual reward.

Londonderry Aire
Just a little harp for you all.

Side Two:

The Bard's Song
What's a Bard? Well, this might show you one side of it.

Lord of the Dance
These are the neo-Pagan lyrics, and uses the "other tune" (not "Simple Gifts!")

Weapons At The Door
A satirical SCA song from some years ago. One of the first songs I wrote in the SCA.

Lady of Kintail
A harp fantasy ...... for the scattered Children of Kintail.

Farais Un Vers
A period medieval lyric by William IX of Aquitaine set to an original tune, and translated to modern English.

Twa Corbies
One of the creepiest songs I know. We tried to give this one some atmosphere, and I think we succeeded!

Hopscot
Octave mandolins doing their thing all over the place!

My Love, My Love
Written with Bill Shirley some years back. Quite sad indeed.

The Dream Song
What has been called the quintessence of SCA filk. This one is sung all over the SCA, and most people have no clue who wrote it. I think that's the greatest tribute to my lyric writing I can have.

Thanks to Jamie Howard for making this recording possible!
